Skate

Bill Eppridge

Apparently from 1960 to 1963, over fifty million skateboards were sold in the US!  Who knew? Skateboarding became somewhat of a cultural phenomenon and in May of 1965, this fun urban sport of sorts landed on the cover of Life magazine.  These photos were shot by Life staff photographer Bill Eppridge.  Aren't they amazing?  They're a real slice of life perfectly documenting the time. And can we talk about the grain?  I love film.

I don't know if skateboarding is now making a comeback or if it never really went away but I see guys and some gals too skateboarding a lot lately.  We like to go to this park in Tribeca and watch the hard core skateboarders.  Lucia is mesmerized by them flipping around and jumping.  They're pretty awesome.
