I spy a New Yorker

Copyright Monica L. Shulman

Whenever I'm feeling uninspired I look to fellow New Yorkers to get my creative juices going again.

There is nothing particularly remarkable about this photo itself but on this particular afternoon I was in between errands and feeling lousy about the work I've been doing.  Rather than dwell on anything, I took my camera out and started shooting.

I loved the confidence of this stranger's gait, the way that little girl is boldly and curiously peering into that store window and the light.  Maybe you had to be there but that street was buzzing with an energy and a motivation that is undeniably New York.  And, that's exactly what I needed.

i can see it! your words fit this photograph so well. interesting that it's almost as if the people in front of you are lined up ...so unlike what we outsiders imagine about new york sidewalks!

I totally thought that was Lucia and was like, OMG, she is on a scooter??!!! And why is Monica all the way over there shooting her? She's going to get kidnapped! hahaha, I'm glad I read the caption.

I feel the energy. It's perfect. I love that woman's fur.

I hope you had a fun and restful trip. Can't wait to catch up....

Love this! It's like a total slice of life.
New York and it's inhabitants are most inspiring!

I looked at the photo before I read your text and I saw exactly what you described. I especially love the little girl staring through the window curious and excited.

thank you so much everyone!

Marni, New Yorkers are so all over the place! for the most part we stick to a side of the street like you would if you were driving...but a lot of people just don't care and will run you over just to get past you. patience is not one of our strong suits here in nYC. :)

Lisi, you know I'd never let her stray that far in the middle of the street...and this was on Broadway just north of Union Square...chaos central. I'd have a nervous breakdown with her not in the stroller...you know the girl is a runner! :)

Ro, it absolutely is a slice of life! And at any given time in NY you will find moments like these. it's one of the things that I love most about the city...you just have to take the time to SEE it:)

Ana, I'm so happy to know that you connected with the image. And isn't that little girl the best part. As a mom you can really appreciate the kid's need to have to go right up to the window and find out what's in there, no?
