This weekend I got some exciting news in my inbox from the people over at the
Black and White Spider Awards. This year I was a
Professional Nominee in the Silhouette Category!
For five years, the Black and White Spider Awards has been committed to bringing world-class Juries selected from the most respected names in the industry. Today it is recognized around the world as the most renowned body of its kind, dedicated to honoring the highest achievements in black & white photography.
Members of the Judging Panel review entries and judge the images based on artistic merit, originality, subject, style and ultimately decide the winners. The impressive list of Judges include a who's who of the photography industry including David Clarke, Head of Tate Photography, Tate Gallery, London; Dr Juliet Hacking, Program Director, Sotheby's Institute of Art; Michael Shulman (no relation), Director Publishing, Magnum Photos, New York; Deborah Harris, Managing Director,
The Armory Show Modern, New York; Darren Ching, Creative Director, Photo District News (PDN); and, Kristín Hauksdóttir, Head of Collection, Reykjavík Museum of Photography, Iceland.
To say that I'm honored to even have been nominated is a huge understatement. I am completely humbled and somewhat speechless. I can't express how much it means to me have my work evaluated in such a way by the caliber of the judges involved in this competition. I feel elated to have been considered and to be among such talented people. The submitted work is simply beautiful and so evocative. Photography is my profession and my passion and honors such as this one are a major source of inspiration for me...not to mention validation! I even got to send in a "Red Carpet" speech!
You should definitely take the time to check out all the other nominees and the winners. The work is simply outstanding. My image is shown in the Online Winner's Gallery.
