M.I.A.

oh. boy.

I know it's so very unlike me to just disappear for a day (I've been on Twitter and Facebook though)...still, no excuse.

Sorry about that. Things have been nuts and I've been running around for the last few days with Artexpo! I will be back soon...promise! And, it's very exciting because I'm going away on a MOLTO-needed vacay with my favorite person on Monday for two weeks. Ciao! We're going to Italy...we're finally making it there after canceling twice. Yes, twice. Most recently this last October.

So...while it is unlikely that I'll be posting photos while I'm there, I will definitely be writing. I'm just not sure that I want to bring my laptop with me. We're renting a car to drive from Florence to Rome and stopping for a few days in random places and I just don't want to worry about the computer. I don't want to spend time downloading photos, etc. Plus, I'm kind of looking forward to (although admittedly a little afraid) to being disconnected like that. Really only checking in once a day, if that. It's healthy. In a way I'm kind of excited to put into words what my images normally do for me. And, to be honest, I don't think that a photograph can accurately describe the nuance and burst of flavors of a plate of osso bucco coupled with a rich glass of red wine enjoyed in Montalcino or the stomach-flip feeling that I am sure I will experience when I step foot into the Sistine Chapel for the very first time. Ahh...Italia. I CANNOT WAIT! Can you? I promise to take fabulous photos of one of the most colorful, deeply cultural and exciting countries in the world.

The Secret

"The secret to becoming who you wish to be begins with believing you can become who you wish to be."

Yeah.

Cinema

I came across this quote by accident and because of blogging. When my lovely friend asked me to be a guest blogger, I made another lovely friend who graciously offered a prize to guest bloggers. I was the recipient of said prize. I read these words every day now. I heart the internet.

In a New York (Artexpo) State of Mind

I'm leaving in about ten minutes to run over to the Jacob Javits Center to start setting up for Artexpo New York! It officially begins for the trade tomorrow and the opens up to the public on Saturday morning. I hope to meet some of you there!

On Saturday I will be there from 10am to about 2:00 because I have a wedding to go to but on Sunday I will be there from 11am to 6pm. Come find me at booth 1105.

In the meantime, here's photo that I took just yesterday hanging out my living room window. I see the Empire State every single day but I'm always inspired by it and I'm always trying new things with processing. I love New York so much.

Artexpo New York 2009

I hope you all had a marvelous weekend. I had a very unproductive day yesterday no thanks to a cosmpolitan that put me over the edge. The migraine has finally left the building and now I can focus on the 500 things that I have to accomplish this week before my trip...the countdown has officially begun.

The biggest thing on my horizon is Artexpo New York 2009 this coming weekend at the Javits Center. This is what the website has to say about this exciting event:

"International Artexpo is the premier trade show of the fine-art industry. As the only show providing dealers with access to thousands of wholesale works from artists and publishers in a single venue, International Artexpo offers unmatched opportunities to network, discover new talent and close deals. Whether you’re an art dealer or retail gallery owner interested in originals and new editions, an art publisher looking to discover new artists or an architect, corporate-art buyer or interior designer shopping for client projects, International Artexpo promises to deliver unsurpassed opportunities to buy and sell art during two exclusive trade-only days and three final trade and consumer days of the show."

The consumer days are Saturday, February 28th (10am to 6pm), Sunday, March 1st (11am to 6pm)and Monday, March 2nd (10am to 2pm).

I hope to meet some of you there! It is a wonderful event.

This is what I will be showing this year - Each image is approximately 16 inches by 24 inches and is in a limited edition series.

Happy Monday!

Under the Mountain

I just have to get through a mountain of things this week and then next weekend is Artexpo New York. I'll be posting details on that this Monday so stay tuned.

Then, after the weekend and all the hard work...Italy! We're leaving for 12 days on March 2nd. We are finally making it there after canceling the original trip in October. I cannot wait. In the meantime, while I'm trying to focus on the today and the here and now, my mind is on faraway places.

Happy Saturday! I hope everyone has something fun planned tonight...I do!

Sweet Sixteen: The Sequel

Another year, another birthday. When I was a kid I thought thirty was so old - and in any event, so far off that I couldn't even conceptualize it. Now I'm thirty-two...officially a thirty-something. I don't think of it as old or young. It's just a number.

I'm really looking forward to this year. I know it will be a good one. For the last few years on my birthday I've been thinking about what I've accomplished in the past, what I'm not doing, what I should be doing better...I tend to be hard on myself even on my birthday. I'm not doing that anymore. I'm telling 31 the same thing I said to 2008 - "beat it, bozo!" I decided that 2009 is going to be a year of positive thinking. There is too much going on right now within me and in the world to have another day, another BIRTH-day, where I'm reflecting on yesterday. Yesterday only matters in the sense that I'm going to use what I learned to be better tomorrow. No? This year I'm thinking about today. It's good. I like it.

walking into...

So...without further ado, Happy Birthday to me! I'm having dinner and lots of good wine with my family tonight at one of my favorite restaurants in New York and this weekend I'm having a fabulous joint-birthday dinner with a dear friend and 20 of our closest.

Oh happy day!

Today's soundtrack is inspired by this photograph taken in Argentina and one of my favorite artists of all time.

Stay tuned for another post today to share some exciting news about my most recent giveaway. I'm doing a co-promotion with a favorite blog of mine.

How many Manhattanites does it take to dig a car out of wet sand?

The answer is two: my husband and me.

The story goes like this...Sunday was a divine afternoon in East Hampton so we decided to go to the beach. We'd gone the day before and I took some photos but the weather was not as warm so we went back for seconds. I suggested driving onto the beach because we have a permit and have never done it before. D enthusiastically agreed. yay! Less than half a mile later something was awry - it felt like the car was struggling to move ahead. D called it and started to turn around but the car was stuck. oy. Panic ensues. Well, panic ensued in me. I had this vision of the tide coming up and taking us out to sea like Gilligan. Oh, the drama. D looks at me like I'm nuts at moments like these and he is so calm. I am Latina - I always blame it on that.

We used some umbrellas to try to dig the wheels out and while it helped a little, it did not really work. Yowsa. I got excited when I saw a Hummer racing toward us and announced "yay! help is coming!" but D simply laughed at me when it passed right by. That wasn't very nice of them. We ended up calling 911 and they sent a lovely man to tow us out of there. I was mortified (although not enough to put my camera away, of course) but I had the courage to ask the man if this is a common thing. I was sure he said - "sure, yuppies from the city always get stuck out here because they don't know any better, dumbass" - but D assures me that he said "sure, all the time! At least you guys have a permit." It was definitely an ordeal and while there was no charge for the tow and no ticket to pay, it did cost us a bit of dignity.

Someone else had the problem too...these aren't our tracks.

I Google, Therefore I Am

I Google myself from time to time. Doesn't everyone? I mean, don't most people? Actually, I Google everything and on occasion, I Google myself. There are many, many variations that often include "New York", "photographer", "art" and my maiden name "Lima".

I always find this blog and my website, Flickr, Ro Gallery and a few
others, but every once in a while I come across something fabulous (luckily I haven't found anything awful...at least not yet).

I found this at a website called 3LUXE. Scroll down to read what they have to say about me and to see my image, "Hot Purple Lips"...woot!

Hot Purple Lips

Stay tuned for my posting fun today...I'm in one of those moods. And...don't forget to sign-up for my Giveaway! Yesterday I forgot to tell you that I'll announce the winners one week from tomorrow (my actual birthday), February 25th!
