A Week in (iPhone) Pictures

Having a bad back is not an easy thing to deal with for anyone. For a photographer it is down right terrible. I am a very active person: I go to the gym, I take yoga and pilates, I walk every where in a city with incredible public transportation...but no matter what I do for fitness, my back kills me at the end of every day because I insist on carrying my big camera and zoom lens with me every single day when I'm out running errands, working on personal projects, going to the supermarket, etc. I can't even think of how my back feels after any commissioned assignment and a day of lugging around all of my gear- whether it's for a travel company, child photography, a wedding. It takes me a few days to recover.

I had to make a choice. Something that was not easy: I leave home without the camera. Obviously it's impossible to leave home without it when I'm shooting commissioned work but I do leave it home when I'm just going out for milk, to go to the gym, to go shopping or whatever else. I admit that I can't leave it everyday because I just can't. I feel naked without it but now I have something else to make me feel a little bit better, and more clothed, when I find myself in the unfortunate situation of seeing a moment and not having my camera to capture it. My iPhone. I'm in love with it.

This week I was feeling particularly sore so I left the Nikon at home every day. Look at what I captured without it from Saturday to Saturday. They're not perfect but then again, neither am I.
