On Memorial Day Weekend Manhattanites rush the heck out of dodge and head to the beaches...the Hamptons, the Jersey Shore, Connecticut...where ever as long as it is away from the city and the asphalt. We are usually those people who sit in traffic on Friday night on the way out and Monday night on the way in...but not this year.
This year we decided to stay in New York and so far so fabulous. On Friday night we had dinner with friends at a great restaurant in Tribeca and didn't even have to wait for a table. Afterward we went to two bars and had no problem getting a table...we left the first place after seeing a mouse and the waitress was rude to us because we were upset at the sight of the freaking thing. But, that's a completely different story...only in New York. Then on Saturday we spent the morning cleaning up our terrace, weeding the pots where our flowers and plants go and going to Home Depot to buy some flowers...another "only in New York" moment: we bought a bunch of plants and flowers, dirt and a new hose and the delivery window for Saturday night was 8pm to 11pm. Today we went to Long Island to have a bbq with my family and my mom and I spent two hours at the shoe department at Lord & Taylor - I got two new pairs - wee! Is this an amazing weekend or what?
Today...we're just going to spend some time taking care of our new plants and seeing friends. I have a feeling this is going to be an incredible summer. I just feel it.
Happy Memorial Day!

PS--Let's also not forget what this day is really about. Not just the official start of summer but also a day to remember those who died in honor of the United States.
